So, it's been forever since I posted (and may well be forever before I post again), but I figure this is the easiest way to let y'all know without having to repeat this story over and over and over again...
First off: everything's fine.
Just another Friday. Worked at the Mall slingin' games, rushed home and went to work at the corner liquor store by my house.
Around 9:30 I'm sittin' using my laptop when I hear a gun cock and look up to see a black ski mask and the barrel of a pistol. Yep, I got robbed.
I'm actually pretty proud of the way I handled myself. Didn't freak out, didn't go hero, didn't even piss my pants.
He had me open the register, give him the money, lay down on the floor and put my hands under my stomach. Then he left. I could hear the footsteps leave but I called out a couple times: "You still there? Is it okay? Hello?" No answer so I got up and immediately locked the fuckin' door. Then called 911, cops showed up (I got scared all over again being surrounded by cops), asked me 8,000,001 questions, let me call my manager (who lives 3 minutes away).
All's good. The store's out maybe $800 in stolen cash (which insurance will presumably cover) and a night's sales since we closed up as soon as the cops left. Good thing, too, cause I thought I was calmed down and fine, but couldn't manage to figure out my closing paperwork despite the fact that I do it most nights with my eyes closed.
There's not a lot else to report. I couldn't see the guy, didn't recognize his voice, and wasn't too much help to the cops. I guess that's it. Now you all know what happened, so if/when the rumours start flyin' you know where to point people to for the truth and i won't have to repeat this story ad nauseum.
Who knows, maybe I'll even write my third performance poem ever ;-)

Was talking with mikemcgee last week about the possibility of bringing the entirety of TOFU to San Jose for a full length show. I figured this would be the perfect show to push through the Downtown Art Series at The Stage and introduce Aural Tradition to the "cultural elite" of San Jose who have the ability to offer some real funding for future poetic projects. So today I'm collecting data on deadlines and eligibility requirements for the program only to discover a Merc article from last week that both the Downtown Arts Series and it's bigger brother the Performing Arts Series have been cancelled due to lack of available funding from the city.
But hey at least we'll (eventually) have a fancy new city hall at a cost of around $40 million :-(

knutzythebunny took me out to dinner tonight :) Yummers. I appreciated it, but it's kind of odd seeing "Big Mike" eat such tiny amounts of food. He's working towards a goal that's important to him, though, so kudos.
Finally got the complete run of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr on VCD today! WooHoo! This was a truly great Bruce Campbell vehicle and I now have all 27 episodes. Copies available if you're interested ;-)
Woke up at 7:30 or so this morning after just a few hours sleep. This heat has really got to end SOON.
ARM is bangin' around the house bored out of his gourd while I try to watch NBC's medicore new cop show, Hawaii. I find this show has a hard enough time trying to keep my attention without a wandering poet boppin' in.
Dropped off a partial rent chek to my landlord today. Never did generate enough revenue to give him full Sept. rent, but I'm still hoping something will come through soon and I can bump that amount up.
Now y'all know why I always look so bored with my life ;-)
Tuesday I need to drop rent off to my landlord. :(
If I can give him the full $1000 rent for the month of September he's promise to forgive $7018 of the $1268 in back rent I owe him. That's all the back rent I've inherited from myself and past roommates: mikemcgee , Art Flowers and Lauren Partridge up to the beginning of $2004. I'd still be on the hook for the remainder, but at least the 2004 debt is almost all my own.
Anywayz, I've got about $550 of that $1000 thanks to current roommate, ARM. The shitty part is I have almost $1000 owed to me at the moment, but apparently none of it's going to appear in time to help me:
jackeljaw = $50 (going back over 18 months)
knutzythebunny = $60 (going back to July utilities)
ARM = $150 (remainder of his August rent)
Aural Tradition = $685 (the bulk of which goes back a year)
Yep, if I could even get half of what's owed to me I could wipe out more than half of what I owe out. Woe is me, yadda yadda, yadda. Guess I ust need to pick who I lend money to a little more wisely in the future.
On the flip side I get to see the 1979 Gang War Classic The Warriors on the big screen at the Camera 12 tonight at midnight and Anthony has just discovered the record player and classic rock vinyl collection in my room so is serenading the neighborhood, so I guess things could be worse...
